The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt features a number of popular mods, and if you’re wondering if your favourites will be compatible with the upcoming next-gen upgrade, developer CD Projekt Red has been testing some of the more renowned ones. The third instalment in the Witcher series, known for being a video game with a lot of backstory, is widely regarded as one of the best western RPGs of the last decade. It’s not surprise that people are looking forward to this update.

The Witcher 3 will be released on the PS5 and Xbox Series on December 14, and as many have predicted, the port will improve the graphics quality of the 2015 fantasy title. Of course, the original version is still a visual masterpiece, but the transition to newer systems will deliver a far crisper experience, complete with all the trimmings that come with graphics advancements. But it’s not just about the appearance. The free upgrade will also include a collection of community mods for people who already own the game on PS4 or Xbox One.

To prepare for this, CDPR has been testing some of the most popular The Witcher 3 mods and has published a spreadsheet listing which work and which don’t.

The spreadsheet includes 71 modules, their Nexus Mods links, the location they must be installed in, the results of their compatibility test, and any other remarks. Of the 71 items on the list, 38 appear to work, leaving 33 that aren’t compatible with the next-generation upgrade, with notes such as “script problem” or “no visual effects.”

It’s a good thing the studio went to the trouble of evaluating which community mods will work, so fans can see which of their favourites they can keep using. In addition to the update, CD Projekt Red is reconstructing the original Witcher game from 2007. This will not only be a total remake of the 15-year-old RPG, which has aged over time, but it also appears to be more open-world, bringing it in line with the second and third editions.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions launch on December 14.
