Team India left the Aussies behind to win most matches in a calendar year. In 2003, the Australian team had won 38 games across one year but by the end of 2022, Rohit Sharma and Co. shattered the record by winning 46. Both teams have dominated cricket throughout the years and with the ODI World Cup coming up, their sole aim will be to lift the Cup. While India has won the ICC ODI world Cup two times, Australia has won the trophy five times.
Most matches won in a calendar year
1. India (2022)- 46
India had a fruitful year in 2022 winning the bilateral series more than the teams they played against. However, they didn’t have a good time in Asia Cup and lost the semifinale of the T20 World Cup against England. In T20Is, they won 27 out of 36, in Test format they won 4 and got defeated in 3. They won 14 out of 21 matches in ODI.
2. Australia (2003)- 38
Australia in 2003 was led by skipper Ricky Ponting when they emerged as victors in 38 matches out of 47. They even won the 2003 World Cup by defeating India. They won 30 ODIs, and eight Test matches in that year. They faced loss in only 47 games. From 2003 to 2021, they had the record for most wins in one calendar year.
3. India (2017)- 37
The men in blue’s second-best year were 2017 when they won 37 matches out of 53. They lost 12 games, drew 4, and had a win/loss ratio of 3.083. 4. Australia (1999)- 35
The Aussies in 1999 registered 35 victories out of 51 games. Steve Waugh led the team that year and interestingly they won the ODI World Cup defeating Pakistan. It was a remarkable victory as post-1996 World Cup, their team went south and had a very poor format. They lost 5 ODI matches consecutively a few times twice. They had 26 wins in 37 ODIs and 9 victories in 14 Test matches.
5. India (2018)- 35
