Pele’s mother, Celeste has played a magnanimous role in the Brazilian icon’s career and now, with “O’Rei’s” passing, let’s take a look back at some of the bright stories they shared.
Pele’s mother, Celeste, turned 100 years old recently
Very recently, Celeste stepped into 100 years of age, and Edson Arantes do Nascimento took to Instagram to write some beautiful words to the woman who gave birth to Pele.
Named the “Brazilian Mother of the Year”
Before the 1966 FIFA World Cup in England, Pele was training with the Brazilian National Team in Teresopolis. Meanwhile, he noticed his mother arriving at the training ground unannounced. The moment he realized it, he ran to give her a hug.
O’Globo had very recently honored her “Brazilian Mother of the Year.” She was Joao Ramos do Nascimento’s wife, who was also known as Dondinho.
Born in Tres Coracoes, Minas Gerais in Brazil, she moved to Bauru when the legendary Brazilian was a kid. There, Pele started being successful at a very early age from the encouragement derived from his mother to go for his dreams in football.
With the all-time great Brazilian legend giving everyone a permanent goodbye, the soccer world is mourning. The only player ever to win three World Cups, Pele has had a glittering career, known for his unparalleled skills and massive goal-scoring attitude. He’s the one who helped Brazil become a brand in World Football, and who helped a small club like Santos to be a big name.
It must be very difficult for his mother to mourn the loss of his son, and she’s surely through a very difficult time. With the new year coming up soon, the year ended with the demise of arguably the great.
