Pegasus analysts say incident raises questions on iOS
Iconic smartphone maker Apple admitted that its iPhone is vulnerable to the Pegasus type vulnerability. They call it “highly complex”, costing millions of dollars to develop and targeting specific individuals.
In a statement, Apple’s head of security engineering and architecture, Ivan Krstić, said such breaches pose no threat. This is applicable to most of its users. Moreover the United States is primarily adding new protections to and protecting its devices.
Apple clearly condemns cyberattacks against journalists, human rights activists, and others seeking to make the world a better place. For more than a decade, Apple has been the industry leader in security innovation.
Prior to Apple’s comment, there were recent reports that journalists from more than 16 outlets. These include Indian and international publications, as well as human rights activists, lawyers and politicians around the world.
The results of the investigation suggest that NSO’s spyware hacker, Pegasus, is subject to widespread and ongoing abuse. Pegasus infects Android devices and iPhones, allowing operators to access messages, photos, and email. It can also reportedly record calls and secretly activate the microphone.
According to Amnesty International’s forensic method report, Apple’s iPhone is the easiest to snoop on with Pegasus software. The leaked database shows that the iPhone running iOS 14.6 contains a clickless iMessage vulnerability. This can be in use to install Pegasus software on the target entity’s iPhone device.
Attacks such as those described are very complex. They cost millions of dollars to develop. This sort of attacks usually have a short lifespan. Moreover, these are in use to target specific individuals.
