Skull and Bones Year 2: New Combat, Kraken, and More!

Ubisoft is preparing for a huge Year 2 update for Skull and Bones, bringing new content like fresh modes, ships, a Kraken, and, most notably, the long-awaited land combat. The company shared its plans as part of a special Year 2 showcase, and while everything about these updates sounds exciting, the introduction of land combat, coming in Season 3: Guts and Glory this fall, is what fans have been looking forward to since the game’s launch in February 204.

Skull and Bones: Year 2 – Major Updates Include Land Combat, Kraken, and New Ships

In Season 3, players will finally take on swordfights and use firearms as they bring the action onto land. The new rescue feature will take players on an exploration activity through sandy beaches and caves to find Officers, skilled crew members integral to the game. While the teaser video demonstrated some of what’s in store, the complete features won’t be available until later this year.

For now, Skull and Bones players can look forward to all the other thrilling updates shown off for Year 2 before the land combat update arrives. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, which is available today, brings a loot-enhancing ascension system, difficult new World Tiers, a new medium-sized Schooner ship, along with a team-oriented Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War (summer 2025) is when Megaforts and the giant Frigate ships will come into play. Season 4: Eye of the Beast arrives this winter featuring the Kraken, a Hunter’s Guild, and an all-new Corvette ship.

For those eager to dive in, starting April 17–21, Skull and Bones will be holding a free weekend with a chance to try the pirate PvP gameplay and shop the game at a discount. Skull and Bones launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and while Ubisoft hasn’t released official sales numbers, it did note a significant boost in player engagement following its release, along with a 200% increase in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag players.
