Blizzard’s 10-Year Plan for Diablo IV Revealed by Series GM

Diablo IV was released in 2023, becoming the first new mainline installment of the series in over 10 years. Diablo franchise general manager Rod Fergusson recently said that players will probably have to wait as many years between Diablo IV and Diablo V as they did between Diablo III and Diablo IV. In a recent interview with Game File, Fergusson commented that Blizzard is dedicated to supporting Diablo IV for the long haul, with a plan that will last them for around ten years. As a result, fans should not expect to hear anything about Diablo V until perhaps 2033.

“We’re here for the long haul,” Fergusson explained. “We’ve been doing long-range planning, and I’ve created a roadmap—a 12-year roadmap, actually. It’s exciting to see where this is all headed, and I can see the direction we’re going. We’re focused on what players want, but I can’t reveal too much more at this stage.”

The release gaps between Diablo games have been substantial throughout the series. After only a four-year wait between the first and second games, a 12-year wait followed before Diablo III arrived. This was followed by another 11 years before Diablo IV was released. This means a 10-year wait for Diablo V would follow suit, and be in line with prior entries in the series, taking a long time to develop.

Blizzard recently teased its Diablo IV 2025 roadmap, which clarified that no major expansions will hit the title before 2026. Seasonal updates and new quality-of-life enhancements will be the focus for the year instead. One of the biggest features fans are waiting on is keyboard and mouse support for consoles, which won’t arrive until the summer of 2025. These updates will help keep Diablo IV fresh and exciting as players continue to enjoy the current content, all while looking forward to the next major chapter in the series.
