Birdo will make an appearance in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as part of the next wave of Booster Pass DLC, as announced during the latest Nintendo Direct. By the end of 2023, the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Pass will have added 48 tracks to the base game.

Mario Kart 8 first appeared on the Wii U in 2014, before being ported to the more popular console early in the Switch’s life. According to Nintendo’s most recent sales update, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the best-selling Switch game, with 52 million units sold as of December 31, 2022. Because of the game’s success, the fourth wave of new content is scheduled for “Spring 2023.”

While the exact date has yet to be confirmed, Nintendo has teased fans that the iconic villain, Birdo, will return in Wave 4 of Mario Kart 8.

The egg-spitting boss was last seen in Mario Kart Wii, so fans will be delighted to see her return, and she is the first new character to appear as part of the MK8 Deluxe Booster Pass. Players will be able to race in their standard pink outfit or a variety of other outfits such as green and orange.

Along with revealing the first new character for the expansion pass, Nintendo also revealed a brand-new course in the form of Yoshi’s Island. The short segment features characters from the Yoshi’s Island series, including a giant Nep-Enut that looms in the background of the ocean. The track is the expansion pass’s second original course, the first being Sky-High Sundae, which appeared in the second wave of content.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is available now for Nintendo Switch.
