American boxer confirms ‘final talks’ are in progress.

It may not have been a sight for boxing purists to enjoy, but few can ignore the commercial success of the first fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Conor McGregor.

With both fighters at a dead end at this point, there were rumors suggesting the duo would lock Horn in the boxing ring.

Floyd Mayweather has officially announced that he plans to host another show in the ring with Conor McGregor in 2023. The two fighters first met in professional fights in 2017, when the legendary American boxer won by 10-round technical knockout.

When the undefeated retired boxing champion became an MMA star in 2017, he caught widespread attention from fans around the world. Earlier this summer, it was reported that the pair were ready for a rematch, although Dana White scrapped the idea. However, on Wednesday morning, Mayweather publicly confirmed that the match will take place in 2023.

Floyd Mayweather’s opinions regarding the match and his future plans

“I want to go out there this weekend and have fun. Then I have another exhibition [in] Dubai in November and me and Conor McGregor in 2023.” stated Floyd Mayweather to The Daily Mail ahead of his exhibition with Mikuru Asakura.

“We don’t know if it’s going to be an exhibition or a real fight. But there’s been talks of both. I would prefer an exhibition.”

“I am not into fights where I am going to take any real punishment. So, guys like Conor McGregor and guys that don’t really hit hard such as YouTubers or UFC guys, I don’t really mind colliding with those kinds of individuals but nothing where I am going to put myself in a position where I am going to harm myself or hurt myself.”

In May, McGregor spoke to Sky Sports and admitted he had plans to return to boxing, stating, “Boxing is my first love in combat sports. I had such a great time the last time I was out there. Obviously, my return will be in the octagon for UFC – that story is far from over, in fact it’s just being written, it is just the beginning. But, boxing, for sure I will grace the squared circle again in the future.”
