India’s former head coach Ravi Shastri believes that India needs a new T20 skipper after the men in blue were badly crushed by England. Currently, Rohit Sharma who’s the most senior player in the lot. Under him, Mumbai Indians lifted the Cup 5 times and the same performance was expected from him in the T20 world Cup. However, things didn’t go well there.
“I think for T20 cricket, there’s no harm in having a new captain because the volume of cricket is such that for one player to play all three formats of the game is never going to be easy. Rohit is already leading in one-days and Test matches. There’s no harm in identifying a new T20 Captain, and if his name is Hardik Pandya, so be it.” Ravi Shastri said
He was actually mesmerized by England’s performance as they became the first team to win both the T20I and ODI format World Cup at the same time.
The former cricketer and head coach also believes that it was necessary for the Indian players to participate in the T20 leagues abroad to adapt to the conditions.
“They are absolutely fine playing IPL (Indian Premier League) and focusing on domestic cricket.“– he added
