In an explosive interview on Talk TV, Ronaldo expressed to Piers Morgan how unhappy he was when Manchester City talked him into signing for them. However, his former manager Alex Ferguson convinced him to rejoin Manchester United. Contrariwise, Manchester City is extremely shocked at Cristiano Ronaldo’s accusations and remarked that they were never “close” to signing him.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s blasting statements in the interview
“Well, honestly, it was close. They spoke a lot and Guardiola said two weeks ago that they tried hard to have me. But, as you know, my history is with Manchester United. Your heart, you’re feeling the way you did before, and it made the difference.”
The Portugal forward mentioned that Manchester City had deceived him. In addition, he made the allegations that they were forcing him out of the club. Cristiano Ronaldo also stated that Manchester City did not offer any assistance when his daughter was hospitalized in July 2021. Moreover, they doubted him and expressed no empathy when he failed to show up on time for pre-season training.
Why did the situation deteriorate?
Things became worse when Erik Ten Hag took over as Manchester United’s manager permanently in 2022. Cristiano Ronaldo expressed that he did not respect the Dutchman who was only trying to sanction him for his outburst in the interview.
Ten Hag has had talks with the Old Trafford hierarchy and Manchester United has decided to potentially sack Ronaldo for this disciplinary breach. His interview appeared after he scored three goals in the first half of the season. Out of them, only one came in the Premier League which took place before the World Cup in Qatar.
Presently, Ronaldo is preparing himself for the World Cup intending to win this prestigious competition for the first time in his career.
