Thierry Henry has opened up about his wish to see Lionel Messi retire from Camp Nou. The Argentine star’s current contract with Paris Saint Germain concludes this June, and there’s still a lot of uncertainty about his next move.
Thierry Henry expresses his willingness to see Lionel Messi retire from Barcelona
On Sunday, PSG lost to Lyon 1-0. Before it, Messi’s name was booed by a few of the home supporters when it was announced in the Parc des Princes.
PSG fans are still upset following their exit from the Champions League against Bayern Munich, and according to some supporters, it’s best for Messi to leave the club.
Henry, who had his time with Messi during his tenure at Barcelona, wants to see the Argentine star get back to Camp Nou for the concluding phase of his glorious career. The Frenchman even feels the PSG fans booing Messi will not be of help to keep him at the club.
What did Thierry Henry say?
Talking to Amazon Prime Video, Thierry Henry said,
“I’d like to see him finish his career at Barca; it’s a wish. I’m not saying he should leave PSG or not leave PSG. I’m happy to see him in the French League. But the boos last time didn’t help. Thirteen goals, thirteen assists (in Ligue 1 this season), we’re talking about the current best player in the world, OK?”
35-year-old Lionel Messi has made a great impact for PSG this season, striking 13 goals and providing 13 assists in Ligue 1.
Providing Barcelona’s current financial situation, it might be difficult for the club to get back Messi. Their issues are such that they could even lose their star midfielder Gavi for free.
