Street Fighter 6 appears to be a tremendous hit for Capcom, as it breaks the fighting game record for the most concurrent gamers on Steam. Street Fighter 6 was released on June 2 for several gaming systems, with complete cross-platform support.
Street Fighter 6 has garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics, with the PS5 version receiving a Metacritic score of 92. It has a Steam rating of “Very Positive” with over 2,000 reviews, however, the Metacritic user score has yet to be published at the time of this writing. Street Fighter 6 appears to be a major hit for Capcom, at least on PC, with far more concurrent players than other games in the genre.
According to SteamDB, Street Fighter 6 outperformed other well-known fighting games with an all-time concurrent peak player count of 70,573. Mortal Kombat 11 and Tekken 7 both managed 35,147 and 18,966 simultaneous players, whilst Dragon Ball FighterZ reached a peak of 44,303 players on Steam.
Street Fighter 6 is performing far better than other games in its category, and shortly, those statistics could increase even more.
Many games attain their highest concurrent player counts on the first weekend after release, although games can potentially exceed this record year later. For example, with the release of the Lightfall expansion earlier this year, Destiny 2 shattered the record for the highest concurrent player count.
The fact that the game is believed to be incredibly user-friendly may have contributed to its large player count. For example, Street Fighter 6 includes an alternate control scheme that enables players to easily execute special attacks, making it easier for newer fans to interact with their favorite characters. It also includes a substantial amount of single-player content for those who are not interested in the online multiplayer component.
