Again rain washed out the entire day 4, and it is for the second time in the World Test Championship at Southampton. The condition even got worse on Monday, and all the hopes of a specific result in the India versus New Zealand test match are probably gone.
Only 141.1 overs have been bowled overall, in two days of playing out of four, as the rain is showing all its adverse effects on the inaugural edition of test cricket’s grandest event. New Zealand will continue from 101 for the loss of two wickets, might be disappointed as they had the upper hand since they bowled out India at the score of 217.
New Zeland’s Probable Plan
The captain of New Zealand, Kane Williamson, and Ross Taylor are present on the pitch with Williamson in 12 and Taylor yet to open his innings. Probably they planned to chase the runs by which they were trailed by and set on a good first-innings lead that India has to chase again.
With the massive rain, it assured that nothing goes right on Day 4. Though a reserved day is allocated, i.e., on Day 6, with two days of full it may not contribute much to the game.
The Winner would get a cash prize of 1.135 million pounds, but further rain made it uncertain that there won’t be any specific winner, and the prize may get divided. The weather forecast reports state that more rain is set to play its game both on Tuesday and Wednesday. Though it is predicted that the weather will be sunny from Wednesday.
The Cash Prize Distribution
If the match ends up with and draw, which is even most likely to happen, then the two finalists will split the cash prize equally. If it ends with a specific result, then also the runner-up will not go home with empty hands. The match is being played in front of 4000 crowds daily, hence in case of a deciding result, the losers of the final and the 1st runner-up of the World Test Championship will go home with 567,000 pounds.
