Overwatch 2 to get balance Changes on November 15th 2022

    Blizzard has revealed that Overwatch 2 will receive its first significant hero balance patch on November 15—much sooner than the previously reported improvements anticipated for the game’s second multiplayer season.

    No hero’s overall power level is significantly out of line with our goals, according to Blizzard, who originally claimed that significant balancing modifications wouldn’t be made until Season 2 (which is scheduled to begin in early December). Given that Blizzard is now considering making modifications to five heroes in advance of Season 2’s release, it appears that a lot has changed in the two weeks since that post.

    Community manager AndyB described upcoming modifications to select “standout” characters in the current Overwatch 2 meta in a post on the Overwatch 2 forums. These characters will all receive nerfs starting on November 15 and include Genji, Zarya, D.Va, Sombra, and Kiriko.

    Since the release of Overwatch 2, Genji has been a huge pain in the support players’ sides.

    According to Blizzard, he “greatly benefited from the move to 5v5…but hasn’t received tuning updates since he wasn’t actively in the meta until launch.” That will soon change because Genji’s shuriken damage will decrease from 29 to 27, and his maximum ammo size will drop from 30 to 24.

    In contrast to “early player sentiment” that characterised Zarya as one of the weaker tanks in Overwatch 2’s new 5v5 format, she has also shown to be a formidable opponent. Her “high damage potential and Barrier uptime have proved to be incredibly successful,” according to Blizzard, therefore she will have her Barrier duration cut in half and her Barrier cooldown lengthened by one second.

    According to Blizzard, Sombra’s Hack ability will undergo modifications because it has proven to be a bit too successful at quickly flanking back lines. Hack’s ability lockout length is being decreased by.25 seconds, the damage multiplier applied to hacked targets will drop from 40% to 25%, and throughout the duration of the effect, hacked foes cannot be hacked again.

    The adjustments follow a challenging launch for Overwatch 2, which featured lengthy queue times, DDoS assaults, and server maintenance windows that prevented many players from playing for days after the game’s release. Since then, things have stabilised, and Blizzard has compensated players for the game’s initial downtime by giving them a free skin and several double XP weekends.
