Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition has some major performance issues

The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition was released recently for the current console generation, and most players have found it to be a letdown. This new edition of The Outer Worlds promised to run smoothly at 60 frames per second, but this claim is far from accurate given the current state of the port.

Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds is a single-player sci-fi RPG that promised to offer an experience similar to Fallout: New Vegas in space. Because the game was reasonably successful, a next-generation version was announced last year. It was promised at the time that this new edition would include all currently released DLC as well as improved performance.

However, following the release of The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition, it appears that all promises of good performance were not very realistic.

Most gamers were ecstatic to be able to play this game in dynamic 4K resolution and at 60 frames per second on their current-gen consoles. While the visuals appear to be better than the original, there have been reports of constant frame rate drops, with the game never reaching 60fps for more than a few seconds. The issue is so serious that it interferes with gameplay. According to those who are currently playing this new edition, the game does not always register that buttons are pressed when the frame rate drops, resulting in a very clunky experience.

The Steam version is not faring any better than the console versions. Most people seem to agree that the game runs far worse than the original, with all of the issues that consoles have, regardless of which GPU the player is using. Furthermore, the game was not even free for players who already owned the original version, making the situation even more painful. At the time of writing, the edition has a Very Negative review on Steam with 19% approval, which is worse than Kerbal Space Program 2, a much-anticipated game that flopped badly but still received 50% approval on the platform.

The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition is currently available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
