Mauricio Pochettino has got his responsibility at the Cobham training ground, and his first job at Chelsea should be initiating the option-to-buy clause in Denis Zakaria’s contract.
New responsibility for Mauricio Pochettino as the new Chelsea manager
The 26-year-old midfielder signed the contract with Blues on loan from Juventus in January. He had an impressive appearance in the beginning but eventually had a reduced first-team opportunity. Across all the competitions, Zakaria only had 13 appearances, averaging 55 minutes.
Under Graham Potter, when the West Londoners were looking for a sensational midfielder, he stepped up. Since Frank Lampard’s appointment as caretaker manager, the Switzerland international just had one appearance and, surprisingly, was also excluded from the matchday squad on seven occasions.
The 44-year-old might be prioritizing players’ non-loans till his tenure. But Chelsea has got an option-to-buy clause which could be around €26million, in Zakaria’s deal. Also, N’Golo Kante is ready to exit next month after his contract is concluded. Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have also been strongly linked with exists.
By omitting the Swiss on several occasions, Lampard has made it difficult for the Blues to comprehend whether to make his deal permanent or not. There is just a small sample size of Zakaria, and Mauricio Pochettino has been shown enough to justify activating the clause.
Many players are expected to exit Stamford Bridge this summer
It’s expected that many players will be bidding goodbye to Stamford Bridge this summer. Chelsea has a good chance to sign the Juventus star before deciding on moves for the big-money targets. That could be risky but it seems that Zakaria already has a fair understanding of the fanbase’s wish and his performances have genuinely proved that.
