There have been massive speculations last week regarding Messi’s return to Barcelona. However, all the expectations were crushed as Lionel Messi joined hands with Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.
Fans’ dreams shattered as Lionel Messi joins Inter Miami
Messi’s contract with PSG will conclude on 30th June after which he’s going to be a free agent. Camp Nou had been very interested in bringing him back to the club and had been vocal about it. However, failed to offer him the registration guarantee this summer.
Discussions were on in recent months regarding his next destination. Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal would offer a magnanimous €1 billion contract. However, following football analyst Guillem Ballague’s revelation, it’s clear that Messi will be moving to America to kickstart another chapter of his life.
Two crucial commerce partners, Apple and Addidas, helped Inter Miami onboard him. Reports further state that the Argentine star footballer will even receive a revenue share from Apple TV+’s MLS Season Pass as a part of the collaboration.
Apple has announced that a four-part docuseries on his five World Cup appearances would stream on Apple TV+. The report also claimed that Messi’s deal would have the option to buy a percentage of an MLS team as his tenure concludes as a player in the league. It has a similarity to David Beckham’s contract with the LA Galaxy, which provided him the scope to buy an MLS expansion team, which is now Inter Miami, for $25 million.
When will he play his first match?
Inter Miami has their game against the Mexican side Cruz Azul on 21st July, and that could be Lionel Messi’s debut game for the American club.
