A Reuters story claims that Reliance Jio is developing a cheap 4G-capable laptop that will cost $184 (about $15,000). According to reports, the smartphone would have a Jio 4G SIM card built in. Since quite some time, Jio has been developing the JioBook, and some of the device’s features were revealed in a report in 2021.
For the JioBook, Reliance Jio has teamed with Qualcomm and Microsoft. Qualcomm will supply the chipsets for the gadget to the Indian carrier, but Microsoft is anticipated to give support for some of the applications.
According to the source, the JioBook could start being made accessible to enterprise clients this month, including businesses like schools and government agencies.
In the following three months, a more significant commercial launch is anticipated. According to the source, the company will first release a laptop with 4G capabilities, but a 5G version will follow. It’s interesting to note that Jio and Airtel recently announced the arrival of 5G services in the nation. The rollout of Jio’s 5G services is anticipated to start around Diwali, although Airtel’s 5G services have already been released.
The Mukesh Ambani-led company is now working on releasing a cheap 5G smartphone in addition to a 4G laptop. According to reports, Flex, an Indian contract manufacturer, will make the JioBook. According to reports, Jio hopes to sell “hundreds of thousands” of JioBooks by March 2023. According to a previous rumour, the JioBook will have a Snapdragon 665 CPU, up to 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage.
