With an easy victory over Australia in the second test of the Border-Gavaskar series, India is one step ahead of booking their tickets to the WTC finals and will either lock horns with Australia or Srilanka.
They gained a 6-wicket victory over the Aussies and concluded the test in three days. Currently, they have a PCT of 64.06, with Australia having a little bit of lead of 66.67, but still, they are in danger of experiencing a massive decrease in that number, along with a 4-0 loss with the way India is dominating them, and this will eventually lead to their elimination from the WTC final.
India secured the victory by 6 wickets
Though it seemed like the match would be interesting to see with the Aussies having a stronghold, and indeed they were a bit ahead of the men in blues, the ‘dynamic duo’ of Jadeja and Ashwin proved why the adjective fits perfectly for them. Together they got the Aussies all out just at 113, with Jadeja getting seven and Ashwin 3. Australia had one run lead; hence the target of India was 115, and they chased it down with the loss of 4 wickets.
Jadeja eventually won the man of the match award for his 7-wicket haul, and indeed the all-rounder is looking on a different level since his comeback. And with their lead of 2-0 in the series, they have tightened their grip for performing in the WTC finals. The least they need to do is to draw the upcoming test matches, or even a 3-1 score would be perfectly fine. However, the way they are dominating, a 4-0 score would not be surprising too.
It is to be seen if either Australia or Sri Lanka gets to meet with India in the finals. Sri Lankans have their next fixtures against New Zealand, where they need to win both the test matches to qualify and Australia to lose the remaining games against India.
