Group call length shortened?
Because Covid 19 pandemic, powers all online communication, free Google Meet users with a personal Gmail account can take advantage of group calls with no time limit in the past year. This benefit ended earlier this month, and Google has detailed the new restrictions.
When Meet was open to all users in April 2020, Google stated that it would not impose a 60-minute time limit on calls before September 30. The deadline for group calls that can be in conduct throughout the day an extension. This ran till March 31, 2021, and again to June 30.
Google did not upload it again before July, and free Gmail users must now endure key party restrictions. The “call with 3 or more participants” is now in limit for 60 minutes.
After 55 minutes, everyone will receive a notification that the call is about to end. To extend the time of the call, the host can update their Google account. Otherwise, the call will end after 60 minutes. In other words, oneonone calls can continue to run for up to 24 hours on free and corporate accounts. The update mentioned by Google is the $ 9.99 / month Individual Workspace tier that was just released in five countries. If the host is updated, the call can take up to a day.
In practice, most users will be fine with one-to-one durations, but group restrictions can be annoying because group / family calls can easily exceed 60 minutes. That period recalls the dynamics of work that did not really correspond to the personal field. However, generating another Meet link is not the biggest drawback.
