Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 8 has concluded with “The End,” a Season 8 finale event that shocked the island to its core. The overwhelming forces of the Cube Queen overpowered the players, and all hope was lost. Fortunately, the island appeared to be spared by members of The Seven and The Foundation, one of whom was revealed to be Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
The “The End” event in Fortnite began calmly enough. The players had a good time bouncing around while a big timer counted down, our impending doom being contrasted by dancing Narutos. All of that changed around the 9-minute mark when Cube Monsters began to infiltrate our reality. We effortlessly dispatched the first wave of adversaries, armed with legendary weaponry and erected turrets. Then the clock struck zero, and all inter-dimensional hell erupted.
The Cube Queen, seen floating above a pyramid-like building, blasted a beam of light up into the sky, tearing a hole in it. She had enlisted the Alien armada last seen in Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 7. As huge beasts emerged from various cubic structures, waves of flying saucers fell on us. Things were not going as planned.
From here, our attention was drawn underground, where a cinematic depicted Dr. Slone visiting a secret IO base. She and her guards had kidnapped Jones (Jonesy?) for some sinister reason; it appeared that they were going to jumble his mind or download vital information stored away in his skull. Slone is interrupted before he can complete his sentence by The Foundation, who removes Jones’ helmet, showing himself to be The Rock.
It’s then a frenzied race to the island’s heart. As a massive Cubed Monster smashes into their pressurized environment, other members of The Seven assist us, the Loopers, in meeting up with Jones and The Foundation. As the water rises, we float to the surface to see the island rolling over on its side.
Cube Queen, who appears to be connected to her pyramid-like edifice, is demolished by the advancing landmass a few seconds later. The world of Fortnite physically flips upside down, revealing another island on the opposite side. Chapter 3 of Fortnite is soon here.
Fortnite, like previous Chapter-ending events, will be unavailable while Epic Games patches the game. As a result, fans won’t be able to see what this “new” island has in store for them until the servers are restored. Nonetheless, they’ll have enough to chat about.
Not only was “The End” an interesting ride, but we also learned more about the enigmatic society known as The Seven, as well as a quick glimpse inside Dr. Slone and Jones’ relationship – we knew they were at odds, but not to this extent. An action-packed finish, the Rock reveal, and a few tidbits of Fortnite mythology all contributed to a fantastic time for those who took part.
