Rather than kneeling before every game, Premier League players prefer to show this anti-racist gesture at certain high-profile moments during the season, believing that 'less is more'. The gesture that initially took its course in June 2020 to show support for the Black Lives Matter campaign, will be used more sparingly from now on to "amplify the message that racism has no place in football or society." The Captains' Thoughts Regarding the Matter in the Premier League Club captains met last week in order to discuss the continuation of the gesture introduced during the 2020 Project Restart to support the Black Lives Matter movement, which was said to gain its eminence in the United States after the death of George Floyd. At the meeting, members were of varying views with some captains speaking on behalf of teammates and fearing the gesture would lose its power or even cause division. While some fans have chosen to believe it has political overtones, it has all been made clear that it is meant to highlight the need for greater equality and inclusion. Were the Captians Able to Reach Any Conclusion? The captain failed to reach ca onsensus last week, but set the club to kneel before certain matches in the Premier League in hopes of reinforcing the message that racism and any form of discrimination is unacceptable in football and society. They seem to have agreed with the fact that taking the knee is expected to have a greater impact. The league said the gesture would be performed in the first and last rounds of matches, the pledged No room for racism in October and March, Boxing Day matches, and Carabao and FA Cup finals. The Premier League captains stated, "We have decided to select significant moments to take the knee during the season to highlight our unity against all forms of racism and in so doing we continue to show solidarity for a common cause. We remain resolutely committed to eradicating racial prejudice and to bring about an inclusive society with respect and equal opportunities for all."
