On September 26, the Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta came to an end. The playtest, which spanned two weekends, gave gamers plenty of time to try out the newest Call of Duty release. On two separate instances, Infinity Ward made an effort to allay neighbourhood concerns, but tensions eventually flared, garnering mixed responses. There is a large list of adjustments that players want, with just over a month till the game’s launch.
Although it may seem all bad, the beta statistics for the new first-person shooter portray a much better image. The Modern Warfare 2 Beta was “the biggest Call of Duty Beta ever,” according to the official Call of Duty Twitter account.
The makers of Call of Duty claimed that the Beta had the most hours played, players, and matches played in the franchise’s history despite not providing specific statistics.
The bold assertion was supported by the Modern Warfare 2 Beta, which topped the Steam Charts during the second weekend. Over eight million play hours were logged during the Beta’s top concurrent player count of 169,000. The most recent CoD game briefly held the top spot in Steam sales before Cyberpunk 2077 overtook it.
Unfortunately, we don’t have player count figures for PlayStation and Xbox, so it’s hard to determine how many gamers checked in for the Beta. The title of most popular COD game ever belongs to Modern Warfare 2019, which has sold over 30 million units. Based solely on the results of the Beta, Modern Warfare 2 has the potential to beat its predecessor.
