It’s official that Everton’s forward Anthony Gordon has a permanent shift to Newcastle United. The contract is on till the end of 2026. The deal gets finalized for a whopping €45M, including bonuses worth above €5M.
Official: Newcastle United confirms signing Anthony Gordon
There have been quite a lot of speculations and rumours before the final deal came to scenario. The Magpies came up as the suitors for the 21-year old winger by the beginning of the January transfer window.
Discussions on Everton’s move came up soon as Anthony Gordon remained absent for a few days from the club’s training as they entered into the possible talks. Gordon had his return to Finch Farm on Friday but travelled up to Tyneside during the weekend suggesting the club’s proposal of a fee.
All the official works were wrapped up on Sunday. It gave Gordon a chance to put his name to a contract that the club has already noted to be “long term.”
What did the promising winger say?
Anthony Gordon said to the club website,
“Since I heard of the interest, I was always convinced Newcastle were for me.”
“I think the fan base and the city really suits me as a person, the way the team are playing under the gaffer at the minute really suits me, and the club just look like they’re heading in the right direction.
I feel like it’s a really big step. People haven’t seen what I’m capable of yet. I think under the gaffer, and the way the club’s going, I can really excel here.”
Everton being struggling at the table bottom, Newscastle is the outside contender for the Premier League trophy. Currently, the Champions League qualification will be the primary target. With Gordon stepping in now, manager Eddie Howe’s attacking options for the season’s second half will surely be strengthened.
