Amazon Studios is working on a God of War TV series based on the PlayStation game series, and a key executive at the firm has vowed that it would stay true to the source material.

According to Amazon Studios Head of TV Vernon Sanders, the God of War TV programme would be about “fathers and sons,” referring to Kratos and his son Atreus. This dynamic will be placed against a “giant epic landscape,” according to Sanders.

What the showrunners and writers have created for the God of War TV series is “incredibly true to the source material, and also compelling on its own,” according to Sanders.

Rafe Judkins of Wheel of Time is the showrunner for the God of War TV series. The show’s authors and executive producers are Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, who wrote Iron Man and Children of Men. Cory Barlog, who directed God of War in 2018, is also an executive producer.

Amazon recently renewed the God of War drama for a second season.

There have been no casting announcements so yet, but Christopher Judge, who plays Kratos in the game series, is lobbying to play the character on the show as well. Amazon Studios is also producing a Fallout TV series from Westworld’s Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, in addition to the God of War TV series.

In terms of the God of War series, God of War Ragnarok 2022 sold 5 million copies in its first week, making it the fastest-selling first-party PlayStation game ever.
