TATA IPL 2022 has been gifting us some mouth-watering matches, and alongside that, there have been some breathtaking innings too. A familiar innings took place at Wankhede Stadium, where Kolkata Knight Riders secured the win over the Punjab Kings, with Andre Russell muscling 70 runs off 31 balls. PBKS batted first and got all out on 137 in 18.2 overs, and KKR chased it down in 14.4 overs only. Here are three facts jotted and written below that led KKR to secure the victory.
Terrific bowling by Umesh Yadav again
Umesh Yadav has been phenomenal for KKR this season as the Indian pacer is striking early wickets for his team. He did a similar thing in their match against the Punjab Kings where he picked up the first wicket in the first over. Overall he took 4 wickets conceding 23 runs. He was also awarded the man of the match for his brilliance.
Andre Russell gaining his form back
It has been a long that the West Indian power hitter and star player of KKR Andre Russell didn’t play in the usual form in which he used to. For the last two seasons, he was not able to contribute much with the bat but ended a match-winning-innings drought after so long as he scored 70 of 31 balls with 2 fours and 8 sixes with a strike rate of 225.81. Gaining his form back is not only good for him, but also for KKR. They retained Andre Russell in spite of his poor form in the last two seasons, and that trust might be fruitful now.
Bhanuka Rajapaksha getting out early
Though the PBKS batting lineup was falling and the top order was unable to score runs and utilize the powerplay, Sri-Lankan big hitter Bhanuka Rajapaksha didn’t mark himself on the same list, as he started to hit the balls out of the park. He played a terrifying inning of 31 from 9 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes with an impressive strike rate of 344.44. However, he got out early as he tried to score more runs early, eventually handing his catch to Tim Southee, in Shivam Mavi’s delivery.
