IPL 2022: Here’s the list of the owners of the 10 IPL franchises

    1. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) – Red Chillies Entertainment & Mehta Group

    The two Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla who are very good friends in real life, came together in 2008, to co-own the Kolkata based franchise KKR. In the partnership, Red Chillies Entertainment has a 55% share and Mehta Group has a 45% share in the franchise.

    2. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) – Chennai Super Kings Ltd

    The franchise was bought by the leading cement company India Cements in 2008. The managing director of India Cements, N Srinivasan who was also the former chairman of ICC and a former president of BCCI owned the franchise. After making a comeback from suspension, the ownership of Chennai Super Kings was transferred to Chennai Super Kings Ltd, which is a subsidiary of India Cements and has a total of eight directors.

    3. Mumbai Indians (MI) – Mukesh Ambani

    Mumbai Indians (MI) is the most successful team in IPL and is owned by India’s richest person, Mukesh Ambani who’s the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries. Reliance Industries is a Fortune 500 Global Company and India’s most valuable company in terms of market value.

    4. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) – RP Sanjeev Goenka Group

    The second new entrant in IPL is Lucknow Super Giants. They bought the franchise after winning the bid of INR 7090 Crores. They have a variety of businesses in power and energy, carbon black manufacturing, FMCG, media and entertainment owned by Sanjeeb Goenka.

    5. Gujarat Titans (GT) – CVC Capital Partner

    The new entrant in IPL. Gujarat Titans are owned by CVC Capitals. The company is a Luxembourg=based private equity and investment advisory firm, having a presence with 24 offices around America, Europe, and Asia. CVC holds around an 11% share in one of the popular La Liga.

    6. Rajasthan Royals (RR) – Emerging Media Pvt. Ltd

    Manoj Badale owns the majority of the franchise ie 65% and’s the owner of Emerging Media Ltd. The other owners are Lachlan Murdoch (13%) and Red Bird Capital partners (15%). Lalchlan Murdoch is well known in Mass Media in the UK while RedBird Capital Partners is a private investment firm in New York.

    7. Punjab Kings (PBKS) – Ness Wadia & Preity Zinta

    Punjab Kings is jointly owned by Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta and Karan paul since 2008. Mohit Burman owns Elephant Capital Plc and is also a director of FMCG Brand, Dabur. Karan Paul is the chairman of Apeejay Surrendra Group. The third owner, Ness Wadia, s the managing director of Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation. He also has a stake in the FMCG company, Britannia Industries. The last co-owner, Preity Zinta needs no introduction being a very popular Bollywood actress.

    8. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) – SUN TV Group

    The Sunrisers Hyderabad replaced Deccan Chargers and made their debut in IPL in 2013. The franchise is owned by SUN TV Group which manages 33 television channels, in six different languages. The company also owns 67 FM radio stations, three daily newspapers and six magazines

    9. Delhi Capitals (DC) – JSW & GMR Group

    In 2019, JSW Steel formed a 50:50 partnership with GMR Group. The JSW Group have been the main sponsor for Delhi Capitals for the past few years. The managing director of the team Parth Jindal has been very active in supporting the team in the stadium.

    10. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) – United Spirits

    Right now, the IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore is owned by United Spirits Limited which has the largest market share in alcoholic beverages. Their senior executive, Prathmesh Mishra is the chairman of RCB at present.
