Who is Matias Rojas? Inter Miami’s Latest Signing
Paraguayan attacking midfielder Matias Rojas joins Inter Miami from Brazilian club Corinthians as a free agent. His move follows a less-than-ideal stint at Corinthians, lasting less than a year. Prior to that, Rojas enjoyed success at Racing de Avellaneda, where he amassed impressive stats. During his time at Racing, he was coached by Fernando Gago, who currently manages Chivas in Mexico.
Matias Rojas, the 28-year-old attacking midfielder, has officially joined Inter Miami. He began his professional career with Paraguay’s Cerro Porteno and has since become a prominent figure in the national team. Rojas arrives at Inter Miami from Brazilian side Corinthians as a free agent.
Despite a brief and less-than-ideal stint at Corinthians, Rojas previously enjoyed success at Racing de Avellaneda, where he showcased impressive performances. Notably, during his time at Racing, he was coached by Fernando Gago, who currently manages Chivas in Mexico.
Rojas’s contract with Inter Miami initially spans this season, with the option for a one- or two-year extension contingent upon his performance. He joins the team amidst the MLS Cup competition, where Inter Miami currently leads the Eastern Conference.
Furthermore, Rojas will be teaming up with his compatriot Diego Gomez at Inter Miami. Unfortunately, Gomez is sidelined due to injury for four to six weeks. However, both players are expected to recover in time to represent Paraguay in the upcoming Copa America, led by national team coach Daniel Garnero.
Rojas, brings a wealth of experience to the club, having featured prominently for several top teams across South America and representing the Paraguayan national team. His journey includes stints with Cerro Porteño (2014-2018) in Paraguay, Racing Club de Avellaneda (2019-2023) in Argentina, and Corinthians (2023) in Brazil, among others.
With over 200 professional appearances to his name, Rojas has showcased his talents in prestigious competitions such as the CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores and the CONMEBOL Copa Sudamericana, tallying four goals and an assist in the former and recording an assist in the latter.
Noteworthy achievements in Rojas’ career include winning a Paraguayan First Division title with Cerro Porteño and two Trofeo de Campeones de la Liga Profesional titles with Racing Club. His impressive goal-scoring record stands at 39 goals and 18 assists.
Hailing from Asunción, Paraguay, Rojas began his football journey in the youth ranks of Cerro Porteño before making his professional debut in 2014. His early success with Cerro Porteño saw him contribute to their title victory in 2015 before embarking on loan spells to Club Atlético Lanús and Defensa y Justicia in Argentina.
Rojas made a significant impact during his loan spells, particularly at Defensa y Justicia, where he scored 10 goals in 27 appearances. His performances earned him a permanent move to Racing Club in 2019, where he established himself as a key player, contributing to their success in domestic competitions.
During his time at Racing Club, Rojas crossed paths with fellow Inter Miami CF teammate Tomás Avilés on eight occasions. Rojas later joined Corinthians in Brazil, making 30 appearances for the club before his move to Inter Miami.
On the international stage, Rojas has represented Paraguay on 18 occasions, featuring in prestigious tournaments such as the Copa América and FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
