Naughty Dog has announced that The Last of Us for PC will be delayed from March 3 to March 28. The action-adventure game was remade and released for the PlayStation 5 in September of last year, and the PC version was scheduled to be released on March 3, 2023.
The Last of Us is a 2013 PlayStation 3 game that follows Joel and Ellie as they travel across post-apocalyptic America. It has since been expanded with downloadable content titled Left Behind, which delves into Ellie’s backstory, a sequel titled The Last of Us Part 2, and an HBO series adaptation starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.
Since the premiere of the HBO series, sales of the first Last of Us game have been steadily increasing, and the upcoming PC version was supposed to bring the game to even more people who might want to play it for the first time.
However, players will have to wait a little longer than expected because Naughty Dog decided to move the PC release date from March 3 to March 28. The developer stated on Twitter that it wanted to ensure that The Last of Us is in the “best shape possible” for its PC debut. It assured longtime fans and potential new players that Joel and Ellie’s story would be available on this new platform soon.
Many The Last of Us fans appear to understand the need for the delay, telling the Naughty Dog team that they should take as much time as they need to optimise the game while expressing their eagerness to play it. One user pointed out that moving the release date after The Last of Us’ final episode airs on March 12th was a wise decision.
The Last of Us is almost a decade old, but its legacy is still alive and well, as evidenced by the amount of support it has received for the recent PS5 release and the HBO show. With a rapidly growing fanbase, there may be high expectations for the PC version to deliver the best possible quality, particularly for first-time players.
The Last of Us Part 1 is currently available on PlayStation 5 and will be available for PC on March 28, 2023.
