Indian captain Sunil Chhetri had a choice to make in 2013, to join Churchill Brothers, who were playing AFC Cup at that time or join a new team Bengaluru FC. Chhetri listened to his gut feelings and signed for the Bengaluru club instead of the Goan club.
Sunil Chhetri’s reign at Bengaluru FC is nothing other than being great. He has won 8 trophies with the club in his 8 years with the club. The Indian talisman has made 203 appearances for the club so far and scored 101 goals. He has captained the club since its inception in 2013 and has been the club’s top scorer for the last 8 consecutive seasons.
Sunil Chhetri said in a video uploaded by Bengaluru FC on Twitter: “Everything told me to sign for Churchill Brothers (in 2013). I-League champions, renowned name, going to play in AFC Cup. On the other hand, (Bengaluru FC) new club and don’t know who are going to be signed, may or may not work, so it was a gamble I took,”
“My family said sign for Churchill and be sorted. AFC Cup was a big motivation. But I went with my gut feeling. Sometimes in life, your gut feeling gets it right, sometimes not. But here I got it right.”
Sunil Chhetri has now extended his contract with Bengaluru FC for 2 more years till 2023. He is still a vital part of their plan as he shows no sign of stopping and still continues to play at his highest level.
