According to The Guardian, the Premier League is mulling new measures, including the possibility of unvaccinated players — who presently account for 16% of the league – traveling to games and eating meals apart from their vaccinated teammates.
Unvaccinated people are currently compelled to spend 10 days in isolation if they come into touch with a virus-positive person, regardless of whether they test negative later, and this is a condition that has resulted in an increase of absent players for recently postponed games.
About the New Regulations
Following discussions last week, teams voted in favor of continuing the season as long as it was safe to do so, despite the suggestion of a Premier League circuit break.
Yesterday, a Premier League statement read: “It was confirmed at a Premier League club meeting today that while recognizing several clubs are experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks and challenges, it is the League’s collective intention to continue the current fixture schedule where safely possible.”
The health and well-being of all parties involved is our priority, and the League will continue to monitor and reflect public health advice while exercising prudence. The adaptation of the Premier League COVID-19 postponement process in response to the impact of the Omicron version was one of the topics discussed at this afternoon’s meeting.
What League Has to Say
The League also certified to its clubs today that 92% of players and club employees have received one, two, or three COVID-19 immunization doses, with 84% of players still undergoing vaccination. Players who have received one or two doses must wait the required amount of time before receiving their second or booster shots.
The League continues to cooperate with clubs to encourage vaccination among players and club employees, as well as publicize the government’s vaccine messaging to clubs and the general public.
The League will not reveal any specific information on clubs or individuals and starting in January, player vaccination rates will be made public at the end of each month.
