Persona 5: The Phantom X for iOS and Android has been officially announced by publisher Perfect World Games and developer Black Wings Game Studio, following a teaser announcement in April 2021. The release date has not been announced, but it will be a free-to-play title with in-app purchases based on items. Currently, only China’s release has been confirmed.
The official website is now accepting sign-ups for the “Infiltration Test” playtest, which will begin on March 29 in China. Even though the announcement makes no mention of a PC version, the playtest will be held on PC and Android devices.
Persona 5: The Phantom X is an entirely new game set in the Persona 5 universe.
It is set in Tokyo and follows an original story about a new band of Phantom Thieves. The original game’s style and basic gameplay have been preserved, while the graphics have been improved and the user experience and presentation have been optimized for smartphone users. Perfect World Games and Black Wings Game Studio will develop, distribute, and operate the title, with SEGA and ATLUS’ P-Studio supervising and providing resources.
While it is set in the Persona 5 world, it is being developed as a new game that is tailored to local user preferences, trends, and gameplay environments. Shigenori Soejima of the ATLUS art team created the protagonist and his Persona.
The game is centered on the theme of “desire,” and it tells the story of students who have awakened to their “Personas,” who must face challenges together in an era of “low desire.” A mysterious old man with a long nose, a strange underwater room, an owl that can speak human language, and another world apart from reality—all of these seemingly unrelated events are linked in some way.
Players will assume the role of students, attending classes during the day and engaging in activities such as baseball or watching movies with friends in their spare time. They can infiltrate the other world, which appears in the form of palaces with various themes, after school and use their Personas to engage in high-octane battles against enemies.
