Activision Blizzard is set to update Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with another limited-time free multiplayer period, allowing new players to try out some of the most popular modes in the series’ latest entry. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been free-to-play once since its release and has received the same kind of double XP treatment that many titles before it has received, but not quite like this.

The developers of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have confirmed that the multiplayer will receive five days of free access for players who do not already own the game across all platforms. Though it hasn’t been done with many Call of Duty entries in the past, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 provided free entry to its multiplayer in December, and it’s about to replicate the experience for players who haven’t had access to the game’s content since. Call of Duty fans could also get codes for experience boosts in Modern Warfare 2 with Mountain Dew, Little Caesars, and Jack Links before the game’s release.

A Call of Duty update confirmed that the multiplayer and some of the game modes in Modern Warfare 2 will be unlocked for free between March 16 and March 20.

The limited-time free offer grants access to six multiplayer maps in a rotation that may feel a little more limited than that of existing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players. Aside from this limited map selection, the multiplayer and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Special Ops menus will have their restrictions, which may tease everything that the full edition includes but can only open certain things.

The cooperative raid introduced in Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be available for free players to try during the limited-time March event, which could help boost party numbers.

The Himmelmatt Expo is another Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer map added with Season 2 Reloaded, and new players will be able to explore the medium-sized arena, while Activision Blizzard only teased Shipment. Because many players who participated in the first Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 free event did not upgrade to the full edition of the game, this second one may entice some of them.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
