The Serie A club, AC Milan has signed in the French footballer Olivier Giroud from the Champion League winners Chelsea. The 34-year-old striker had been keen to make his move to an Italian club. He even turned down his 12-month contract extension at Chelsea, in June.
Reason for Olivier Giroud’s coming to AC Milan
There has been a specific reason behind Giroud’s not accepting the new contract with the London club. In the last Premier League games, he started for his team in only 8 matches. This happened following the arrival of RB Leipzig and Timo Werner. Hence he indicated earlier that he wanted regular game time.
Giroud’s statement when he left Chelsea
On Friday, on leaving his former club Chelsea, he thanked his fans and the club’s fans for some wonderful memories, and also the players and coaches. He gave a huge thank you on Twitter mentioning all his blues including his teammates, coaches, and the whole club.
He also added that he is starting a new journey with a light and happy heart and stated that their victories in the FA club Champions League and Europa League have been magnificent.

Olivier Giroud moved to Chelsea from Arsenal in January 2018. He scored 38 goals out of his 119 appearances in the 3 years he played for the club. In his time of stay, Chelsea won a Champions League, an FA Cup, and a Europa League, at the Stanford Bridge.
Apart from the club victories, Giroud has also been a World Cup Champion when France won the title in 2018. However, France in EURO 2020 was not much able to do and got knocked out by Switzerland from the top 16 round at the penalty shootout.
