Germany has unveiled a new ‘common’ home kit to be worn by both men’s and women’s teams for the upcoming 2022 and 2023 World Cups.
Together with Adidas, Germany was one of the first companies to create a bespoke jersey specifically for the women’s team, separate from the men’s. This has become more and more the norm in recent years, but the DFB is going in the opposite direction and the latest home kit will be a united kit for all.
Midfielder Lina Magull stated, “It’s a cool and strong sign. This jersey symbolizes that we all stand for football, live the same values together and have one goal.”
“We want to be successful and role models for the many girls and boys who love this sport as much as we do. We look forward to that we will wear this common jersey at both the 2022 Men’s World Cup and the 2023 Women’s World Cup.”
Modifications in the Jerseys in Germany: What is New?
As for the design itself, the wide black stripe down the middle of the shirt marks a significant change from the typical kit of Germany, regardless, of acknowledging the national team kit used in 1908. Black shorts and white socks complete the overall look.
Alongside the release of the joint home kit, the German men’s team’s new red and black away kit has been unveiled. The women’s team will continue to use the existing green modified stripes seen at Euro 2022 earlier in the summer.
The German teams, both men’s and women’s qualified for their respective World Cup. The men will be grouped with Spain, Costa Rica, and Japan for the competition starting in Qatar in November. The women’s side will be matched up in the Australia/New Zealand group stage next summer with a draw in October.
