Next month, when Electronic Arts intend to also announce Skate 4 and FIFA 23, the new Need for Speed game being developed at Criterion will be revealed, claims top-tier leaker Tom Henderson. The previous entry in the racing series, Need for Speed: Heat, came out three years ago.

But whereas the new game is the first Criterion creation since 2012’s Most Wanted, that one was primarily created by Ghost Games. As you may remember, the British studio had to put the game’s development on hold last year to assist DICE with the release of Battlefield 2042.

Even if it might just be the codename, the new game’s title could be Need for Speed: Unbound claims the report. It’s interesting to note that Henderson echoed some earlier remarks made by fellow journalist Jeff Grubb in April, who claimed the game would have a stylized graphical style that combines photorealism with cartoon or anime-like features.

Character designs were compared to the cartoon TV series The Boondocks, and when doing tricks like drifting or reaching specific speeds, for example, automobiles may emit exaggerated effects like flames, wind, and smoke.

Henderson also confirmed a function known as Meetups, where online gamers will allegedly be able to get together and begin racing straight immediately somewhere in the world. Finally, the unnamed sources claimed that the upcoming Need for Speed’s tracks will somehow be distinctive.
