Inter Miami has confirmed that Lionel Messi will sit out the club’s upcoming Major League Soccer (MLS) match against DC United on Saturday, as they opt to avoid risking the team’s star player.
“Following further medical evaluation, it has been determined that the captain has suffered a minor hamstring injury in his right leg,” Inter Miami said in the report accessed by TN media.
“Messi’s availability will be determined based on daily medical evaluations and the development of his recovery in the coming days,” the report added.

Will Messi Miss Argentina’s Upcoming Game?
According to a report from TN, his participation with the Argentina national team during the upcoming international window could be compromised due to a reported hamstring injury.
Messi is expected to train for Argentina’s friendlies against El Salvador and Costa Rica on March 22 and 26 respectively, but it remains uncertain whether he will be fit to play in these matches.
Inter Miami coach Tata Martino has already warned of the possibility of Messi missing some upcoming matches.
“He has an overload in the right leg, and we didn’t want to take any risks,” Martino stated. “We tried to see if he could continue, but it was bothering him, so we decided to take him out of the game.”
“I don’t want to take any risks, but I don’t expect him to be available for Saturday’s game,” Martino told reporters after their most recent match.
Lionel Messi: Beyond Athleticism – Unveiling Intellectual Brilliance
Expert Jana Martinez-Piqueras has asserted that Lionel Messi, the FC Barcelona legend and current Inter Miami star, is intellectually gifted. Martinez-Piqueras made these claims to MARCA, stating that Messi possesses what is known as ‘altas capacidades’ in Spanish, or gifted intellectual capacities.
“Yes, it is believed that Messi can be [considered] a person with a high intellectual capacity,” she confirmed to Madrid-based newspaper MARCA. “Historically these people have always been associated with a number, a test result, a high IQ. But this is a completely obsolete paradigm. At the level of science, it is no longer sustainable,” added the president of Indifferent Minds.
Martinez-Piqueras, who specializes in the field, mentioned that historically, intellectual giftedness has been associated with high IQ scores. However, she noted that this paradigm is outdated. She emphasized Messi’s exceptional cognitive abilities, which are evident in his playmaking and precise calculations on the field.
“It’s clear that he has multiple cognitive abilities combined. And then there is the most important thing: Messi, like people with highly gifted capacities, changes the environment in which he intervenes. “If anyone thinks that everything Messi did on the pitch is because he rotates his ankle very well, they are wrong“.
According to Martinez-Piqueras, Messi, like individuals with high intellectual capacities, has a profound impact on his environment. She highlighted Messi’s ability to influence and transform the game beyond his physical skills, challenging misconceptions about his achievements being solely due to athletic prowess.
“There are a lot of athletes with high ability that go undetected, excellent athletes who have not been taught the cognitive part. And what you don’t work on, becomes extinct,” she said.
Furthermore, Martinez-Piqueras expressed concern about the undetected intellectual giftedness among athletes. She stressed the importance of nurturing cognitive abilities alongside physical training to prevent these talents from going unnoticed or undeveloped. She lamented that many athletes with high intellectual capacity may not receive the necessary cognitive training, potentially hindering their full potential.
