With this victory against Austria, Italy is now on an 11 in a row winning streak. Besides, they are unbeaten in their last 30 matches. Italy’s all-time undefeated record is 31 matches, and the Italians are probably looking forward to breaking that record as well, in the quarterfinals.

The efforts from both the teams

Italy was certainly a better side in the 1st half of the game. However they failed to find the inaugural goal when Ciro Immobile took a distance shot, but the ball collided with the far post. Till halftime, it was a goalless draw.

Austria started to perform better at the starting of the second half. The Austrian skipper David Alaba, just hit a free-kick that went over the bar. Also, Arnautovic and Xaver Schlager went close to scoring a goal.

This was the time when Italy stressed a little, as Austria was proved to be better after the VAR ruling. Besides, Marko Anrautovic of Austria scored the first goal of the match, but unfortunately, it was called offside. The match was however goalless for the entire 90 minutes.

Goals started to come in after 90 minutes

Chiesa was a substitute of the match, who gave Italy the first breakthrough on the 95th minute, and then goals came at a flow from both sides. Matteo Pessina netted the second goal for Italy in the 105th minute of the match. Austria also was not far away from scoring the goal, and Sasa Kalajdzic did this work, by scoring it on the 115th minute when he headed the ball which came from the corner.
