Kolkata Knight Riders dominated Mumbai Indians in match number 34 of IPL 2021. KKR has a very poor winning record against the MI, however, that doesn’t seem to put much effect on them in today’s match. They defeated Mumbai even with a good margin with 29 balls left, and with 7 wickets in hand.
The match
Initially, Mumbai Indians gave a tough fight to Kolkata as both of their openers including Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock batted well, scoring 33 of 30 and 55 of 42 respectively. Though KKR bowlers fought back and did well, and no one after them could stand for long. Though some of the middle order batsmen played some good shots, and the next highest score apart from the openers is 21 of 15, by Kieron Pollard, which helped MI to reach 155 with the loss of 6 wickets.
In reply KKR gave a ferocious reply, starting with playing some explosive copybook shorts. The first over of the second innings was bowled by Trent Boult, and both the openers of KKR and Shubhman Gill started in an aggressive mode. The second ball which Gill faced went for a huge six. A total of 13 runs were taken by KKR in the first over. Eventually, they maintained the run rate of above 10 and chased down the target soon in 15.1 overs.
Performance by KKR
There has been an incredible show of entertainment by Kolkata Knight Riders in the second phase of the Indian Premier League. In their first match of the second season, they played exceptionally well, and in the second match also they did the same and even against MI.
With the joint efforts of Rahul Tripathi scoring 74 of 42 balls and the discovery of IPL, Venkatesh Iyer scoring 53 of 30 balls, KKR dominated their bitter rivals after a long time. Sunil Narine was given the man of the match award for his good bowling of conceding 20 runs in 4 overs and changing the game by dismissing the good-looking Rohit Sharma.
