CSK qualified for the playoffs and became the first team to do it in IPL 2021. They defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday at the Sharjah stadium to secure 2 more points and gaining an overall point of 18 to qualifying for the finals. It has indeed been a brilliant fightback from CSK as in the last season, i.e., in 2020, they got eliminated from the tournament at first, and in this season they qualified to the final round as the first team.
The match
Sunrisers have been struggling in this season of IPL, and are in the last of the points table for a long time in this league. Eventually, CSK being one of the best teams this season, completely dominated the orange army. SRH batted first and put up a score of 134 with the loss of 7 wickets. Only Wriddhiman Saha scored a good score of 44 though he took 46 balls. With the help of a short cameo by Rashid Khan of 17 of 13 balls, SRH reached this total.
In reply, Chennai has always dominated their opposition. Both the openers including Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis started brilliantly scoring 45 of 38 and 41 of 36 respectively. Though CSK’s innings collapsed a little when Jason Holder picked back-to-back wickets of Suresh Raina and Faf du Plessis.
Though Ambati Rayudu handled the job and helped CSK to get past the total with ease. Also, Dhoni seemed to have gained back his form, as he hit one explosive four to Bhuveneshwar Kumar and finished the innings with a 96 meter huge six to Siddhart Kaul.
CSK to the Playoffs
With this win, CSK qualified for the playoffs, and as per predictions they will meet Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 1. DC is in the second position of the points table with 16 points and needs only one more win to qualify.
