The International Cricket Council wishesd Sunil Gavaskar a very happy birthday on turning 72nd on Saturday, 10th July. Records of Sunil Gavaskar

India’s one of the greatest batsmen of all time, Sunil Gavaskar celebrated his 72nd birthday today. He served India as an opening batsman of Test Cricket from the early 70s to the late 80s. In that era where hitting the ball in the air was a blue moon event, and when batsmen fear the pacers more, as they had fewer guards, and many of them played without a helmet, in that era only, Gavaskar was the doom of many bowlers.

The West Indian pace attack of that time, is considered as the greatest pace bowling attack of all time, and it is also heard, that ambulances were kept ready outside the stadium, in the fear that batsmen might get hurt of the violent pace attack of Joel Garner, Michael Holding, Andy Roberts, and Malcolm Marshal. In front of those express fast bowling, with fewer guards and even without a helmet, Gavaskar ruled throughout, and scored 10,000 runs, in his overall test career.

Also, apart from the West India pace attack, there were some other legendary fast bowlers too, including Jeff Thompson and Denis Lily (Australia), Imran Khan (Pakistan), Richard Hadley (New Zealand), and Bob Willis and Ian Botham (England), in front of Gavaskar never kneeled.

The name of original Little Master

Gavaskar was of 5’5 height, who showed his efficiency and became an inspiration to many. Also, in that era, where cricket was only played in the winter season, and very less in the summer season, in that span of short time, he touched the milestone of scoring the first 10,000 runs in test cricket. The name “Little Master” is certainly worth mentioning for the G.O.A.T Sunil Gavaskar.
