Financial Turmoil Plagues Hyderabad FC: Staff Protest Unpaid Wages Amidst Club’s Struggles
Over the past few years, Hyderabad, champions of the 2021–22 ISL season, has found itself grappling with financial turmoil. Many players and support staff have opted to terminate their contracts or seek opportunities elsewhere due to the ongoing challenges. Manolo Marquez, former Hyderabad coach from 2020 to 2023, expressed to reporters his observation on the club’s management, stating, “The problem is that they don’t have the correct people managing the club.”
Sources close to the situation shed light on the current state of affairs, acknowledging the difficulties. Delays in obtaining permissions for matches have been a recurring issue, with recent games hanging in the balance until the eleventh hour. Salary disputes have further compounded the club’s woes, though efforts are underway to address these concerns. There remains hope that the club will navigate through these challenges and resolve the issues in due course.
“The situation is a bit bad, and we are trying to get things sorted. Even today’s match was touch-and-go with the permissions coming in late. The salary issues were there, and we are trying to get things in order. Hopefully, the issue will be resolved soon,” the source said.
Hyderabad FC’s Resilience Shines Despite Defeat: Coach Singto Optimistic Amidst Young Squad’s Performance and Emerging Talents
Despite Hyderabad FC’s 3-0 loss to Odisha FC at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday (5th Feb 2024), head coach Thangboi Singto expressed satisfaction with the determined performance exhibited by his young Indian players.
Despite enduring their ninth defeat of the season in the ISL, Hyderabad FC, known as “The Yellow and Black,” continues to search for their first victory. Led by their sole foreign player and captain, Joao Victor, the youthful Indian squad showcased resilience, generating genuine goal-scoring opportunities despite their struggles.
In their recent match, Hyderabad FC attempted a total of 10 shots, with only three finding the target. Head coach Thangboi Singto acknowledged the need for his team to exert extra effort in overcoming their goal-scoring challenges.
“The young boys are putting in immense effort, and we’re hopeful that these endeavors will translate into goals,” Singto remarked during the pre-match press conference. “However, football doesn’t offer rewards freely. It demands continuous hard work, and I believe we will eventually break through this barrier and find the back of the net.”
Aron Vanlalrinchhana, the young talent, made a memorable appearance during the final minutes of the match, showcasing his skills by dribbling past defenders and penetrating the penalty box. Despite his promising display, his lack of composure in front of goal led to a missed opportunity as Amrinder Singh thwarted his attempt.
Reflecting on Vanlalrinchhana’s performance, coach Singto highlighted the positives while acknowledging the need for further development. “We are delighted with moments like Aron’s dribble past the defenders,” Singto remarked. “However, with more experience and decisiveness in the critical areas, such as the six-yard or 18-yard box, he could have scored. This underscores the importance of continued training to refine his abilities.”
Additionally, Joseph Sunny, another emerging talent, received his first start in the ISL after making his debut in the previous game against FC Goa. Singto expressed confidence in Sunny’s potential, identifying him as a promising prospect for the No. 9 role, indicating a bright future ahead for the young forward.
Expressing the challenge of finding a proficient Indian striker for the coveted No. 9 position, the head coach emphasized the potential for Joseph Sunny’s development in that role. Singto stressed the importance of providing Sunny with ample game time and tailored training to nurture his skills, reaffirming the coaching staff’s commitment to his progress.
Despite a demanding schedule, the Kalinga Warriors have maintained an impressive streak of form. Sergio Lobera’s decision to rest Carlos Delgado and Ahmed Jahouh by placing them on the bench was noted, allowing them essential recovery time. Singto acknowledged that Jahouh’s absence eased the pressure slightly, particularly in facilitating more openings for his team. Nevertheless, he commended the courageous performance of his players, emphasizing their adherence to tactical directives despite the formidable opposition posed by Odisha FC.
