As of March 7, 2025, the first large-scale public playtest for Battlefield 6 took place, leading to leaked gameplay and screenshots spreading across the internet. These leaks are taking the internet by storm via Reddit. However, the developers have put out a Community Update that boasts about some of the gunplay and movement improvements.
Battlefield 6 Playtest Leaks Reveal New Gunplay, Movement Changes, and Optimizations Ahead of Fall 2025 Launch
The team wants to make combat accessible for every player, yet maintain accessibility for veterans. Shooting is designed to assist players in muscle memory, with gun recoil feedback giving a natural idea of the way it is going, and thus, the aim has been easier to correct. Different weapons will have a unique weight, which adds diversity to the playing experience and increases immersion. Movement is also far more integrated with shooting mechanics, resulting in smoother transitions between actions.
They’ve also cut down on input lag to help shooting feel more responsive and to aid with tracking enemies. To ensure a more fluid experience, the game is being optimized for a 60Hz tick rate, allowing for more precise player positioning, shooting mechanics, and combat interactions. Recoil has been reworked, with camera shake adjustments and firing stabilization making sure that every weapon feels different.
Movement features like crouch sprint, combat dive, and landing roll return to the game as well. New visual indicators for vaulting/leaning make movement more intuitive and help players better understand when they can operate. And it turns out that it’s all hands on deck, with Battlefield studios all over working on Battlefield 6, with development likely taking on the most ambitious title yet in the franchise. Multiplayer will be developed by DICE, and Motive — the studio responsible for the Dead Space remake — is working on a story-focused single-player campaign.
Criterion is responsible for content across both single-player and multiplayer, while Ripple Effect is working on a yet-to-be-revealed experience built on the Battlefield formula. Following the lackluster launches of Battlefield V and Battlefield 2042, this new entry set for a full reveal on May 10 is likely to be a significant step forward for the franchise. There’s not an official date yet, just a tentative Fall 2025 target, more updates and gameplay reveals will be coming as we push out closer to release.
