Gran Turismo 7 will receive a free upgrade that will allow you to play the game on PlayStation VR2, PlayStation chief Jim Ryan revealed on Wednesday during Sony’s CES 2023 press conference. The update will be ready when PSVR2 comes in February, and more than 30 titles are “on schedule,” according to Ryan.
Sony also introduced a major new PSVR2 title, Beat Saber, which is probably one of the hallmark titles for VR. According to Ryan, it is presently “under development” on the platform, and more information about the release will be given in the “near future.”
Although Meta owns developer Beat Games, a PSVR2 version of Beat Saber isn’t entirely unexpected; the game is already available for the original PSVR.
PSVR2 claims to be a significant improvement over the original PSVR, with features such as an OLED screen, a 110-degree field of view, support for 4K HDR and framerates of up to 120Hz, and four built-in cameras. It also boasts new Sense controllers that can detect finger touches and have haptic feedback and adjustable triggers, similar to the DualSense for PS5. However, you will be unable to play your PSVR games on the new model.
PSVR2 will be available for $549.99 on February 22nd. Preorders are now available on Sony’s PlayStation Direct website without an invitation. One of the biggest launch titles is Horizon Call of the Mountain, a new VR game in the Horizon world, but you’ll also be able to go through Resident Evil Village’s new VR mode as part of a free update accessible on day one.
