Electronic Arts confirmed this week that it will not be hosting an EA Play Live event in 2022. Normally, the annual EA Play Live event takes place over the summer, alongside E3 and other major gaming events, but this year, EA has decided not to organize a single event where all of its news would be presented. However, further information on various initiatives will be given “when the time is perfect,” according to the teaser.

A spokesman from EA confirmed the termination of EA Play Live in a statement to IGN. The publisher said it liked how EA Play Live brought people together but said things weren’t “setting up” for the event to happen this year.

EA had not been hyping up its EA Play Live event for 2022 or anything like that, but the event’s return was expected given how well it had gone in previous years, whether in person or online. This event was formerly known as EA Play, but as the publisher’s subscription service adopted the former as its moniker, it was renamed EA Play Live.

This confirmation of the event’s summer cancellation comes on the heels of persistent speculations that E3 2022 will be an all-digital event this year, provided it happens at all. Gamescom, the German gaming festival, has been confirmed to be a hybrid event this year, with online aspects still providing a way for those at home to participate.

EA has a variety of titles coming out soon, including the Dead Space remake, which just earned a release date, and the rumored Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel. Because there isn’t a huge event to look forward to, it’s harder to predict when we’ll hear about those kinds of games, but even if the main event isn’t coming, the summer should bring news about EA’s initiatives.
