Mattias Engstrom, the game director for Hitman 3, will be in charge of Crysis 4, according to Crytek. Engstrom, who worked as a level designer on the first two modern Hitman games before moving on to direct Hitman 3, has also worked on Ubisoft games like Far Cry 3 and Assassin’s Creed Revelations.
In addition to the game director announcement, Crytek announced that it is now hiring for additional positions on Crysis 4, including level designers, art directors, and game designers. Crysis 4 was teased in January with a short trailer. The good news is that the original Crysis can be played on Steam Deck if you have the remastered version loaded and don’t mind a few graphics concessions.
The fourth Crysis installment was almost announced in 2012, which seems like a lifetime ago. Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli claimed at the time that Crysis’ future was free-to-play. Yerli noted at the time, “I believe F2P is our unavoidable future.” “I believe there are F2P games out there that can convey stories and allow you to work together and competitively with your peers. Everything is possible.”
It’s highly doubtful that Crytek’s concept for Crysis hasn’t evolved significantly in the ten years since then, but one thing is certain: it won’t be called Crysis 4.
In other Hitman news, IO Interactive recently added an Elusive Target arcade mode to the assassination sandbox, as well as hinting that a roguelike mode and a new level will be added to the game during its second year of play.
