Larian Studios has issued the first hotfix for its long-awaited CRPG, Baldur’s Gate 3, only a day after its launch, correcting some of the difficulties that have been preventing gamers from enjoying the game. Despite getting great praise from critics and fans alike, some players have already expressed their dissatisfaction with issues ranging from how Baldur’s Gate 3 handles co-op to crashes when playing the game on Steam Deck.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the latest installment in the D&D-based CRPG series that began in 1998. It will be released as an early-access title in late 2020. Even though Larian Studios has taken over the franchise from original creator BioWare, Baldur’s Gate 3 keeps the series’ significant emphasis on player choice and strongly tabletop-influenced gameplay features. The long-awaited CRPG has been praised not only for its great gameplay but also for its often-humorous writing, with developer Larian Studios even taking the time to hide a hilarious secret message in Baldur’s Gate 3’s EULA.
Baldur’s Gate 3 gets its first Hotfix patch fixing over 150 glitches
Larian Studios has released the first hotfix for Baldur’s Gate 3 on Steam, addressing lingering difficulties in the game following its release earlier this week. The update addresses issues ranging from missing characters in split-screen games to issues with Baldur’s Gate 3’s save system, the latter of which the developer attributes to the game’s cross-save capabilities. The update also fixes various crashes that players were seeing in the game, though it’s unclear whether this will remedy the issues that many Steam Deck users were experiencing when starting Baldur’s Gate 3.
The Baldur’s Gate 3 update not only fixes multiple technical and graphical flaws across the game, but it also tackles numerous bugs with the in-game cinematics. These cinematic tweaks account for a major portion of the update’s repairs, which isn’t surprising given how story-heavy Baldur’s Gate 3 is. Cinematic updates range from preventing characters from cutting through each other to correcting misaligned cameras and preventing an NPC from ruining the moment by turning their back on the player during an endgame scenario. The patch notes for these changes include tale spoilers, so players should avoid reading them until they have finished the game.
