Sri Lanka beat the West Indies by 187 runs in the first Test at Galle on Thursday, leapfrogging India to take the lead in the World Test Championship Points Table.
After the completion of the SL vs WI Test on Thursday, the ICC released a photo of WTC points with the text “Sri Lanka on top.” Sri Lanka is at the top of the latest points standings, followed by India and Pakistan in second and third place, respectively.

Claiming the Top Spot
Sri Lanka defeated the West Indies by 187 runs in the first Test at Galle Wednesday, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The Windies were bowled out for 160 runs in the fourth innings, chasing a 348-run goal set by Ramesh Mendis in the second innings.
Captain Dimuth Karunaratne, spinner Ramesh Mendis, and Lasith Embuldeniya were the architects of Sri Lanka’s victory. Dimuth Karunaratne hit a century in the first innings (147) and then added another 83 runs in the second. Ramesh Mendis took 8 wickets in total, while Embuldeniya took 5 wickets.
Current Status of Sri Lanka
Following the conclusion of the match, the ICC tweeted a photo of the WTC points table with the message, “Sri Lanka on top. The ICC #WTC23 points table after the first #SLvWI Test.”
Sri Lanka has a 100% percentage of points (PCT) after winning the sole Test played so far in the current WTC cycle, compared to India’s PCT of 54.17. So far in the WTC cycle, India has won two Tests, lost one, and drawn one, and can grab the top rank depending on the outcome of the first Test, which is now ongoing in Kanpur.
