Complete Order for This Tear’s WNBA Draft

College basketball’s brightest stars are on the cusp of their dreams. After dedicating their lives to this moment, they’ll be eagerly awaiting their names to be called by a WNBA team on draft night. The competition is fierce, especially between perennial rivals Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. All eyes are on Clark, who’s projected as the top pick.

The Indiana Fever hold the top pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, making them the frontrunners to land college star Caitlin Clark. This could reunite Clark with last year’s top pick, Aliyah Boston, on the Fever roster.

How is WNBA draft order determined?

The WNBA draft is a three-round event where all 12 teams get to select players. Each round features 12 picks.

As the WNBA states: “The order of team picks in each round are the inverse order of the standings from the last regular season, except for the first four picks of the first round, which are determined by the Draft Lottery.”

The Draft Lottery took place in December with the four teams that did not participate in the playoffs in 2021, with the chances of drawing the first pick being based on the teams’ cumulative records over the last two seasons (the team with the worst cumulative two-year record had the best chances of drawing the first pick).”

    WNBA Mock Draft

The WNBA Draft kicks off on Monday, April 15th. Here’s a mock look at the first round selections.

    1. Indiana Fever: Caitlin Clark, PG, Iowa
    2. LA Sparks: Rickea Jackson, SF, Tennessee
    3. Chicago Sky: Cameron Brink, PF, Stanford
    4. LA Sparks: Kamilla Cardoso, C, South Carolina
    5. Dallas Wings: Aaliyah Edwards, PF, UConn
    6. Washington Mystics: Angel Reese, PF, LSU
    7. Minnesota Lynx: Jacy Sheldon, SG, Ohio State
    8. Chicago Sky: Isobel Borlase, PG, Australia
    9. Dallas Wings: Alissa Pili, SF, Utah
    10. Connecticut Sun: Dyaisha Fair, PG, Syracuse
    11. New York Liberty: Charisma Osborne, SG, UCLA
    12. Atlanta Dream: Jessika Carter, C, Mississippi State

Caitlin Clark, fresh off a legendary career at Iowa, is projected as the undisputed number one pick. While her Hawkeyes couldn’t dethrone the dominant South Carolina squad, Clark seems destined for individual glory in the draft.

Meanwhile, Angel Reese, a national champion with LSU and a fan favorite with her aggressive style, faces questions from scouts. Despite her past success, there’s uncertainty about how her offensive skills will translate to the pro level.

    Angel Reese’s Emotional Farwell

Leaving the LSU Tigers for the WNBA, Angel Reese had one last farewell to make in Baton Rouge. Forget teammates – it turns out Reese’s emotional goodbye wasn’t for a human Tiger, but for a real, live one named Mike! Seems even the fiercest college athletes have a soft spot for a majestic feline.

Oh my gosh,” Reese said with a heavy heart as she watched Mike the Tiger stroll regally past, realizing she took him for granted over the past two years.”

I’ll miss being able to see a live tiger on campus every day,” the projected top-10 WNBA Draft pick wrote on her Instagram story.

LSU’s beloved Mike the Tiger holds a special place in the hearts of all Tigers, and Angel Reese was no exception. As the star player prepared to depart for the WNBA, a visit to Mike wasn’t just a tradition, it was a must. According to the LSU website, Mike is the only live tiger mascot residing on a college campus in the US, and seeing him is even free!

Mike’s habitat sits conveniently between the basketball arena where Reese dominated under Coach Mulkey and the iconic Tiger Stadium where Mike himself rallies the football crowd. Luckily, Reese made her visit count. The very next day, bad weather forced Mike indoors, making her last goodbye even more meaningful. With the WNBA Draft looming on April 15th, Angel ensured she left Baton Rouge with one final roar – a roar shared with Mike the Tiger.
