5G Rolling out in India – When?
As per the sources, in an official statement. DoT stated that the project is estimated to cost Rs 224 crore, according to the Department of Transportation. It is expected to be completed by December 31, 2021, allowing end-to-end testing of 5G (/topic/5g) User Equipment (UEs) and network equipment by 5G (/topic/5g) stakeholders developing 5G (/topic/5g) products/services/use cases in the country, such as indigenous start-ups, SMEs, academia, and industry.
Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Delhi, and Mumbai are among the 13 cities that will receive 5G services, according to the telecommunications department.
The Department of Transportation has earlier stated that the 5G project would be completed by December 31, 2021. The government plans to auction off the 5G spectrum, including airwaves, in early June, according to Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Following the auction, the government may begin providing 5G services to residents in the 13 cities in August and September of this year.
Who’s Going to roll out 5G First?
The Department of Transportation has not said which of Jio, Vodafone, or Airtel will be the first to offer 5G services. However, all three telecommunications companies are likely to deploy 5G services at the same time.
According to sources, Jio, Airtel, and even Vodafone have already put up testing sites in the 13 locations where 5G services are likely to be available. According to reports, Airtel and Jio have claimed to be the first providers in India to launch 5G services.
Bharti Mittal, CEO of Airtel, affirmed that the company’s 5G network is ready for deployment and will begin shortly once the auction is concluded. Mittal remarked in an interview, according to insiders, that we’ll have higher speeds, but they’ll still be there. Within months of the recommendations and bids, we will have early 5G networks up and running, and Airtel has been preparing for this.
According to Jio Platforms, 5G coverage construction has been finished for 1,000 of the country’s most populous cities. On its 5G network, they’ve been testing sophisticated use cases in healthcare and industrial automation. The telecom operator has stated that 5G will be implemented in India in stages.
